Due to the firework event, Ashe Park will be closing at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 4th, 2020.
As fireworks will not begin until 9:30-10:00 pm on Saturday evening July 4th, out of respect for the businesses that are allowing everyone to use their parking lots we ask you please refrain from parking until 7:00 pm or later.
Below is a list of available parking:
Downtown West Jefferson, Ingles, Ashe County High School, Lowes Foods, Walmart, Lowes Hardware, State Farm, Ashe County Civic Center, Skybest, Skyline Bank, Goodwill, AutoZone (After 8pm), Steve Johnson Auto World, Little Caesars/Subway, First National Bank, Midway Church, Lifestore, O'Reilly Auto Parts.
Please remember to follow all social distancing rules set forth by Governor Cooper and view the fireworks from the safety of your vehicle.
Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, we are moving our 4th of July fireworks show from Ashe Park to 368 Ray Hill Drive - West Jefferson. This location, which is the ridgeline between the water tank and cell tower in West Jefferson, is directly across from Mt. Jefferson Road and actually can be viewed from both the 221 side as well as Main Street West Jefferson. The combination of being both a high vantage point along with the parking capability made this an attractive area for our fireworks. We do ask that everyone please view the show from the safety of their vehicles as this property allows the viewing area to be widespread. With regards to the Ashe County Parks & Rec ballfields, we are now allowing up to 10 individuals on a field at one time. This will apply to both the ballfields at Family Central and Ashe Park. It is important that no groups gather in the dugouts and everyone must follow the guidelines of being at least 6 feet apart while on the grounds. Please also make sure to not engage in high-fives or any other forms of physical contact. We will continue to seek guidance from our state and local agencies as we move forward. Thanks as always for your continued support!
After careful consideration, we have decided to officially cancel spring sports that are offered through Ashe County Parks & Recreation. This will include the leagues of soccer, softball, baseball, and tee ball. The health and well-being of our young participants, coaches, families, and everyone involved will always be our top priority. All those who have paid registration fees or sponsorship fees have the option of getting a full refund or a credit that can be used toward next year's leagues. Since our facilities at Family Central continue to be closed to the public, all refunds and credits will need to be mailed. No refunds will be given out of our offices. The credit form can be found on our website and will need to be submitted when registering your child for next year's leagues. Ashe County Park will be open daily from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm beginning on Monday May 25th. However, all facilities including bathrooms, playgrounds, courts, skate park, and shelters will remain closed. We also ask that all visitors please practice good social distancing while inside the park.
All Family Central facilities will continue to be closed including the gym and fitness center. We do have the walking trail open for people to enjoy.
